Additional Crossing of the Clarence River – Utilities & Flood Pump Stations

Client

Project Value

$6.5M

Location:

Grafton NSW

Industry:

Water, Wastewater and Stormwater

Project Requirements:

The Utilities Project involved replacing existing Utilities infrastructure and enabling the  construction of a new bridge and surrounding road network in Grafton including the supply and install of;

  • 2.1Km of new Water Mains – ranging from DN100 – DN500 pipe
  • 440m of DN150 & DN225 Gravity Sewer Mains
  •  80m of new DN375 Sewer Rising Main including Thrust
bore Encasement Pipe under Pacific Highway

The project included many constraints with restricted workspaces, interfacing with different work  crews and the public, and work-ing around live services. With a wide range of plant, strong safety systems & controls in place, and good communication with Client, Ledonne was able to successfully overcome these constraints.

Project Requirements:

The Grafton Flood Pump Station Contract involved Supply and Install of:

  • 2 x 215kW Submersible Pumps capable of pumping 1000L/s each
  •  Fit out of Pump Station including Pipework, Valves, Access Covers, Switchboard, Electrical, Penstocks and Benching
  •  180m of DN1050 RCP Gravity Main including Twin Headwall Outlet into Clarence River
  •  180m of DN750 GRP Rising Main to River including 6m deep Drop Shaft in Flood Levee wall.
  •  1200×1200 RCBC Inlet Culvert from Detention Basin

A significant challenge to the construction of Outlet pipes was to minimise the time that Levee Wall was compromised, and to minimise disturbance to the environmentally protected skink habitat area. Ledonne was able to install approximately 40m under levee wall via pipe jacking method avoiding opening the levee wall and without impacting on habitat area.

Overview

The South Grafton Flood Pump Station Project was a Design and Construct Contract to upgrade the existing pump station. Pumping stormwater during heavy rain events out of the levee protected area in South Grafton, the new pumps needed to be capable of pumping 200L/s each and programmed to run as required.

Project Requirements:

  •  Removal of existing pumps, pipework, switchboard and pits
  • Design new pumps & pipework to retrofit existing wet wells
  •  Supply and Installation of 2 x 15kW Submersible Pumps
  •  Supply and Installation of 150m of DN375 PVC Rising Main
  •  Supply and Install new Valve Pit and Switchboard
  •  Testing and Commissioning of Pumps, Automation & Switchboard
